WHY ADOPTION FEES COST WHAT THEY DO -- Friday February 3rd, 2023

We often get asked why we charge an adoption fee.

Adoption fees help us continue our rescue mission by covering SOME of the costs we incur for the pet you are adopting.  We cover all initial vet costs to ensure the animal is healthy and ready to go to a new home. Generally, the fees we pay to accomplish this are well above the amount we charge as the adoption fee.

Typical costs that we incur include:

  • Vet wellness visit and exam $50-100
  • Spaying or neutering $125-250

  • Distemper & Parvo vaccine $20-40 X 2

  • Rabies vaccine $15-25

  • Heartworm preventative $50-125

  • Heartworm test for dogs $15-35

  • Feline leukemia/FIV test for cats $30-50

  • Flea/tick treatment & preventative $50-70

  • Microchip $50

  • Deworming $20-50

  • Collar, leash, harness and ID tag $20-50

  • Heartworm Treatment for dogs (if needed) $350-600

  • Dental service $200 (plus $10-20 per tooth for extractions if needed)
